Additional Position Information: * Represents Location Pay for full-time appointees. Hours of work: 7:30AM - 4:00 pm. Days of week: Variable. Hours per week: 37.5.
Brief Description of Duties:
Reporting to the Director of Nursing/Patient Care Services, the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADN) is responsible for the Clinical operations for Pediatric units. The ADN uses the analytical nursing process framework to care and maintain an environment that facilitates both the delivery of high quality safe and compassionate patient care in a health, satisfying work environment for staff. Coordinates and integrates activities to operationalize the mission and vision of the University Hospital of Brooklyn (UHB) and the Nursing Department in the patient care areas. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: Develops and implements innovative strategies to promote of patient/family. Responsible for planning, implementation and evaluation of long and short range goals and objectives related to the patient care services. Encourages collaborative relationships at all levels and participates in team projects. Promotes the strategic plans of the Hospital and the Department of Nursing. Creates a culture of safety throughout his/her department. Directs and monitors the personnel management and supervision in the service/line area. Promotes education and professional development for staff and students Recruits and retains high performing staff. Responsible for managing human and material resources of his/her department within budget/targets. In collaboration with finance, develops an annual expense and revenue budget in order to ensure the ability to monitor overall financial performance of the department and make timely adjustments to achieve operating financial targets. Practices the Principles of Service Excellence in all interactions with patients, families and colleagues. Communicates effectively with customers, visitors, patients, staff, faculty and students. Builds a partnership with physicians and other healthcare professionals as champions for patient care, quality and professional practice. Facilitates the shared decision-making process by encouraging staff participation in unit-based councils. Empowers staff at all levels to impact the patient care experience positively. Participates in the development of nursing service policies; supports and assists in the implementation of these policies. Ensures that care delivered in individualized, consistent with the plan of care and consistent with evidenced-based standards of practices. Maintains clinical expertise, role models clinical excellence and supports staff through direct patient care at scheduled intervals and at period of high acuity as necessary to maintain safe patient care. Qualifications:
Current NYS RN License; BSN with 3-5 years of active relevant Pediatric clinical experience. Prior management or leadership or leadership experience. BLS and PALS certification is required and must be successfully completed within 3 months of employment. Membership in a professional organization. PREFERRED: Previous experience with PICU patients. Master's Degree in Nursing or enrollment in a Master's program. Demonstrate knowledge of computer skills including capability with Microsoft Office applications.
