Brief Description of Duties:
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Ambulatory Services will report directly to the Chief Administrative Officer. The AVP- Ambulatory Services will be responsible for the overall management of Ambulatory Services including clinical and operations. Ambulatory Services include all hospital-based ambulatory programs as well as the management of the off-site operations at Midwood, Lefferts and the Emergency Department. The AVP-Ambulatory Services will contribute to the implementation of strategic plans to ensure service excellence and quality patient care. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES: *Develop and implement short-term and long-term plans to enhance the delivery of ambulatory care services. *Improve the operations of Ambulatory Services. *Identify and implement the most efficient and effective methods for allocation of resources. *Develop and implement plans for improving and addressing physical plant needs in accordance with patient care programming. *Optimize financial opportunities within the Ambulatory programs Ambulatory programs. * Determine and enforce, through team efforts, productivity, quality and safety for patients, staff and visitors. *Ensure educational programming for staff to upgrade skills and maintain competency. * Identify mechanism to optimize and utilize information systems to develop a plan to improve throughput. *Promote and enhance quality improvement efforts to achieve a demonstrable improvement in patient throughput, outcomes and satisfaction. * Develop services that include disease management and models of case management that address the health needs of patients served by Downstate. *Increase the knowledge of managed care practices of all staff as it relates to referral, authorization, pre-certification, notification, quality improvement and reporting, *Ensure that HEDIS measures are being monitored and achieved. *Maintain PCMH accreditation. *Ensure Ambulatory programs meet all regulatory standards including ACGME requirements as they relate to hospital-based outpatient and emergency services. *Establish collaborative relationships with patient units to ensure rapid transfer of patient units to ensure rapid transfer of patient from ED to in-patient units.

All successful candidates must undergo various background checks, maintain credentials required for continued employment and adhere to the SUNY-DMC UHB Principles of Behavior.   Clinical Faculty and Allied Health professionals must receive and maintain Medical Board authorization.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED: Masterís degree in Business or Healthcare Administration. Applicants must have a minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in a large, complex teaching hospital serving diverse employee and patient populations. Experience should include budgeting, management of professional and non-professional groups, information technology and managed care systems. Applicants must have a strong customer service orientation and ability to build collaborative and effective working relations with internal and external customers. Applicants must be individuals who have kept abreast of advances in the delivery of healthcare services in ambulatory settings and familiar with current models of care to improve the health of patients and populations, including specific experience with the operation of a Patient Center Medical Home.
